Well, first, you only have Global installed, so it is definitely an improvement over default, but there is still room for improvement. I have Global, as well as Vector and a couple regional Orbx packs (Pacific Northwest and Northern CA). Each one steps up the beauty to another level. Meanwhile, with just Global, you need to make sure you have it and FSX configured to best show it off.

Welcome to fsim.net! For installing FS Global 2010 and Ultimate Series into Prepar3D V3.x. And FS Global Ultimate all versions (The Americas; Europe/Africa. If the performance of your PC can’t cope with it. What I Don't Like About FS Global Ultimate Europe & Africa. Honestly, nothing!

So, you should turn off Hybrid mode. You want to only turn it on when you have one of the regional packs installed AND you are going to be doing a flight that takes you across the border between general Global textures and the regional upgrade. If you are only flying in a Global area or only in one of the regional upgraded areas, then keep Hybrid off. Hybrid doesn't ruin anything, but as the Orbx devs explained it in their forums, Hybrid mode changes some of the rules that FSX uses to choose which textures to display for a given landclass (type of ground).

It makes the ground textures more generalized so you are less likely to notice the boundary between upgraded areas. But that means you don't see as much of the custom textures tuned for realism in the area. Forests may not look quite as similar to what is really in an area and so on. Also, you need to make sure you have configured the FSX settings properly. Be sure to read through the user guide that comes with the FTX Global package.

They provide recommendations on settings to get the most of the textures and balance against your computer's capabilities. Oh, in that case I should mention that of the various packs offered by Orbx, Vector is probably one of the more subtle improvements. It improves the edges and lines of the landscape. Basically, it makes the edges of rivers, lakes, roads, and other landscape features better looking. So if you want to buy just one more package and depending on where you want to fly, I would actually recommend one of the region upgrades. It will give you the best bang for the buck for an immediate, amazing improvement. If you fly in Europe, the OpenLC also looks impressive.

As soon Orbx releases their OpenLC for North America, I'm getting it. When I got the Pacific NW package, I was blown away by how everything looked. I grew up there, and everywhere I flew-including my tiny mountain hometown-I truly felt like I was there. I recognized the curve of familiar roads and hills. Vector is a great package in combo with the others, but don't miss out on the regional upgrades if you have to choose between them. Have you checked and adjusted the settings in FSX?

The user guides provided with those products have suggested settings to maximize their appearance. For instance, starting at page 17, the FTX Global manual suggests setting the Mesh Resolution to 10m or 5m.

Make sure you go through each product manual compare their settings instructions, and then set the program appropriately. I agree, your game should be looking better than it is. Make sure you followed the installation instructions correctly, and make sure all that scenery has been activated (by going into the Scenery screen in settings. Make sure you can see FTX Global, Vector, and OpenLC files, and the files are all checked.). As others have said, Vector and openLC help a bit, but I would additionally recommend getting a terrain mesh like FS Global Ultimate Europe/Africa or some other similar product.

This improves the terrain elevation data and makes the mountains look much more impressive. The downside of adding a terrain mesh is that many of the default airports will be on a hill or in a trench since their elevation is not exactly correct for the new mesh. FS Global comes with airport specific fixes for all airports, but does not recommend installing them all at once because all the fixes do not actually fix the problem. Summary: FTX Global, Vector, openLC + high quality terrain mesh = a beautiful FSX (or Prepar3d).
