Compare the weight of Macbook Pro retina 13' with charger (heavy) to the new MacBook 12' with charger (very light). As a photographer the mobility is what I care for, bringing my laptop with my camera. Photoshop will be just fine. Heavy filters and processes like big adjustment masks, etc will be a tad slower but nothing to worry about.
Unless you are planning to do massive 4K time-lapse processing, do not worry about performance on this thing with regards to Photoshop. This laptop is made for photographers. It´s that simple. It will fit nicely in your camera bag, and give you massive mobility.
My core kit is now GH4, 2 lenses, charger, a phantom 2 and waiting for this MacBook. Multi layer, larger dimension, CMYK, print resolution files are specifically where it gets dicey. Something like illustration in Photoshop wouldn't be a big deal for me either. I also do a decent amount of work in Illustrator and just completed entirely on the Air and it was pretty complex and involved a lot of gradient meshes and the Air stood up pretty well.
That being said, I would never rely on this laptop as my only design machine, I have to use my iMac frequently for heaver Photoshop stuff and 100% of the time if I am doing anything involving video or 3D.
